This unit will explore a number of different genres, looking at the conventions of each and discovering what makes each one unique. There can, in certain circumstances, be a cross over to create blended genres, or sub-genres. We will also be looking at what initiates these and how sub-genres come about.
Each genre will be explored using a different text and a different text type.
Crime fiction will be explored using prose. We will be reading the teen crime fiction text I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have to Kill You by Ally Carter.
Romance will be explored through poetry and a number of romantic poems have been selected from the TopTenz web list.
Fantasy will therefore be explored via film through the study of the film The Sorcerer's Aprentice, directed by Jon Turteltaub, starring Nicholas Cage and Jay Baruchel.
